Summer Reading!
Over the summer I read West with the Night by Beryl Markham and Frankenstein by Mary Shelley.
I loved West with the Night, I found the language understandable and the wording beautiful. The author wrote in an amazing way and it made me love the book. I thought the characters were easily relateable because their situations were universal. I think I related to the author more because I was a girl, and guys may not relate as well. It followed Beryl, a female pilot during the World Wars. I thought this was an amazing time period to write about because women were just starting to be recognized and accomplished. The book takes place in Africa which makes it worth while to read about a foreign place. The small stories she told were fun and interesting to read about. I just loved the book because of the launguage, stories, and characters. On a scale of 1 - 10 this book is a 10 and I would re-read it anytime.
I thought Frankenstein was a horrible book. The plot was boring and dragged a lot of the time. I often found myself falling asleep while reading it. The language was extremely difficult to follow. The details were not spent on worth while subjects. I really did not like the characters because their situations were difficult to relate to. On a scale of 1 - 10 it was a 2. The literary value was pretty high because of the writing style but I would not recommend it.
